The School Program

Did you know I offer Nutrition services to schools? In fact, I do. My Schools’ Program is tailored to the needs of each individual school community or group of students.

Components of the program include…

For Students (primary or secondary):
  • Cooking demonstration lessons
  • Hands-on cooking lessons
  • Workshops on healthy eating
  • Sports Nutrition workshops
For Parents and Carers, talks & workshops on:
  • Importance of Healthy Breakfasts – and how to get your child to eat it
  • Packing a healthy lunch box: how to, and why is it worth it?
  • Vegetables… tricks and tips for getting them eaten.
  • Dental health for kids: how does food help?

Food and nutrition are keys to good health in both childhood and adult life. National statistics tell us that our kids are often not well nourished and do not make good food choices. We know that affects their health, with more sick days, more dental caries, poorer sports performance, and poorer concentration, learning and behaviour in class. A healthy breakfast, lunch and snacks can make a big difference in how much a child can learn at school. Being familiar with healthy foods and feeling able and comfortable in the kitchen helps children and teens make good food choices. Further, cooking is a skill they will use throughout life.

I work with the school’s Physical Education or Home Economics teachers to build customized lessons for the students’ needs. My experience ranges from doing Cooking Demonstration with year 9 boys at Melbourne Grammar School to helping parents at St Patrick’s Kilmore to pack healthier school lunches to cooking up a storm with primary school children. I have a Bachelor of Human Nutrition and a Master of Dietetics… and three years of part time childcare work experience while I was studying.

I love working with children and teens and I am passionate about helping people find good tasting, healthy foods that fit their lifestyle and their body’s needs. I am confident I can find I way to help your students eat, feel, and learn better.
